Sketchbook Tips

If you're the way I am about my sketchbook, you hesitate to jump right into drawing in it because you're not sure if you'll be satisfied with what you draw in it. If that's the case, here is an article with tips on how to overcome that perfectionism.

A Day To Give Thanks

Happy Thanksgiving!

Venom Sketches

Image
Here's a page of Venom sketches I did last night. My dad and I saw the Venom  movie earlier this week. We really enjoyed it!

A Special Day For Coffee

Judge Harry Stone

Image
"Judge Harry Stone" Here's a picture I drew awhile back of Harry Anderson as Judge Harry Stone from Night Court. It's sad that he's no longer  with us. Besides being an actor, he was a comedian and magician.

Five-Minute Marker Sketch

View this post on Instagram Sometimes I like to limit myself to no more than 5-minutes for a sketch, which forces me to only focus on the essential lines. #sketch #draw #drawing #art #artist #christopherhart #christopherhart A post shared by Christopher Hart (@christopher_hart_books) on Sep 27, 2018 at 4:06pm PDT I may want to try doing a five-minute marker sketch some time.

Sketch A Day: Sketch #30

Image
Sketch A Day Sketch #30 Here's a sketch I did of a cartoon vampire. Considering that October is near, I've been thinking about Halloween stuff from time to time.

Sketch A Day: Sketch #29

Image
Sketch A Day Sketch #29 Here's a sketch of a ghost giving a peace sign.

Sketch A Day: Sketch #28

Image
Sketch A Day Sketch #28 Here's the twenty-eighth sketch for Sketch a Day. Happy National Comic Book Day!

Sketch A Day: Sketch #27

Image
Sketch A Day Sketch #27 Here's a sketch of an actress from the new show, Manifest.  This is the twenty-seventh drawing for Sketch a Day.

Sketch A Day: Sketch #26

Image
Sketch A Day Sketch #26 My family and I had beans and cornbread for dinner. Except my sister, who had macaroni and cheese. Dinner was great! I sketched a cornbread for number twenty-six of Sketch a Day, and there it is above.

Sketch A Day: Sketch #25

Image
Sketch A Day Sketch #25 Here's a Charlie Brown/Peanuts-style picture I drew of myself. This is for number twenty-five of Sketch a Day.

Sketch A Day: Sketch #24

Image
Sketch A Day Sketch #24 This is a sketch of Alfred, Bruce Wayne's butler in the Batman comics.

Sketch A Day: Sketch #23

Image
Sketch A Day: Sketch #23 Here's a sketch of Orko, from Masters of the Universe, for the twenty-third sketch of Sketch a Day. I thought I remembered him having two fingers and a thumb on each hand, but it turns out it's three fingers and a thumb on each hand.

Sketch A Day: Sketch #22

Image
Sketch A Day Sketch #22 Here's a sketch of Spider-Man and his spider sense for sketch number twenty-two.

Sketch A Day: Sketch #21

Image
Sketch A Day Sketch #21 Here's a smurf character I drew. It's Anxious Smurf.

Sketch A Day: Sketch #20

Image
Sketch A Day Sketch #20 It's the twentieth sketch of Sketch a Day! This one is of the Joker.

Sketch A Day: Sketch #19

Image
Sketch A Day Sketch #19 Here's a sketch of what I intended to be a chibi Flash. I don't know a lot about chibi characters, but they seem to have small bodies and big heads. This is for the nineteenth day of Sketch a Day.

Sketch A Day: Sketch #18

Image
Sketch A Day Sketch #18 Today's sketch is for two things: Mr. Bean's birthday is today, and today is also Batman Day. The sketch has a signal over a city, but instead of a Bat Signal, it's the Bean signal. There's a silhouette of Mr. Bean standing in a goofy pose in the signal.

Sketch A Day: Sketch #17

Image
Sketch A Day Sketch #17 Here's a sketch of a classic smiley face.

Sketch A Day: Sketch #16

Image
Sketch A Day Sketch #16 Here's my sketch for day sixteen of Sketch a Day.

Sketch A Day: Sketch #15

Sketch A Day Sketch #15 Here's yet another cartoon character sketch for Sketch a Day.

Sketch A Day: Sketch #14

Image
Sketch A Day Sketch #14 Here's another cartoon character sketch.

Sketch A Day: Sketch #13

Image
Sketch A Day Sketch #13 Here's a cartoon character sketch for day 13 of Sketch a Day.

Sketch A Day: Sketch #12

Image
Sketch A Day Sketch #12 Here's the twelfth sketch for Sketch a Day. It's a smiley face.

Sketch A Day: Sketch #11

Image
Sketch A Day Sketch #11 I did a pen sketch for the eleventh sketch for Sketch a Day. It's Mole Man, from the Fantastic Four comics. I realized, after sketching the glasses, that there should be two separate slits instead of one long one. But, it's a pen sketch, and pen is difficult to impossible to erase. Besides that, it's a rough sketch and not a final drawing, so I didn't think it was necessary to correct it. I still took a picture from my Kindle, but the pen seems to show up better.

Sketch A Day: Sketch #10

Image
Sketch A Day Sketch #10 Here's a sketch of a character I drew in a previous drawing. It's the "angry blob" character.

Sketch A Day: Sketch #9

Image
Sketch A Day Sketch #9 Here's sketch number nine of Sketch a Day.

Sketch A Day: Sketch #8

Image
Sketch A Day Sketch #8 Here's a sketch of Batman for number eight of Sketch a Day. I decided to start putting the sketch number on the back of each sketch. That way if I especially like a particular sketch the sketch number won't be an eye sore on it.

Sketch A Day: Sketch #7

Image
Sketch A Day Sketch #7 Here's sketch number seven for Sketch a Day. It's early for jack-o-lantern's, but it was pretty much the first thing that came to mind to sketch.

Sketch A Day: Sketch #6

Image
Sketch A Day Sketch #6 Here's my sketch for the sixth day of sketches.

Sketch A Day: Sketch #5

Image
Sketch A Day Sketch #5 I decided to continue Sketch a Day and did a quick sketch number five earlier. It's a generic cartoon dog character. I may keep taking camera pictures of the sketches for awhile, but trying to adjust them in my picture app to try to make them show up better.

Sketch A Day: Sketch #4

Image
Sketch A Day Sketch #4 Here's a sketch of an apple. I'm not sure how long I'll do this sketch a day thing. I was thinking of doing it until the end of the year, and then maybe starting over at number one on January 1. But, I might want to focus more on other art before then. I'll see how far I go. I thought if I do it again next year I might do it on my Tumblr art blog instead of here.

Sketch A Day: Sketch #3

Image
Sketch A Day Sketch #3 Here's my third sketch for Sketch A Day. I've noticed that the lenses on Spider-Man's mask look like the eyes of an alien, as pictured here. Coincidence? Or were they trying to give him an alien appearance?

Sketch A Day: Sketch #2

Image
Sketch A Day Sketch #2 Here's sketch number two for Sketch a Day. It's three leaves. I may try to do scans in the near future. I've been posting pictures of my drawings from my Kindle. They don't seem to show up very well. My Kindle generally takes great pictures though.

Sketch A Day: Sketch #1

Image
Sketch A Day Sketch #1 Christopher Hart, artist and author, has been doing a sketch a day. I decided to start doing that too. So, here is sketch number one.

Christmas In July Doodles

Image
Here are some Christmas in July Doodles I did in my Sketchbook last month.

Tree Sketch

Image
"Tree Sketch" Here's a tree sketch I did some time ago. I took a camera picture of it rather than scanning it. At the time I thought it would be easier.

Josh's Art Sketcbhook (In Color)

Image
"Josh's Art Sketchbook (In Color)" Here's a drawing I did in one of my sketchbooks. It's in pencil and color pencil, and Sharpie pen. I have a picture of it uncolored, so that's why it says "(In Color)" in the title.

National Superhero Day

Happy National Superhero Day, and happy birthday to Jessica Alba who played a superhero (the Invisible Woman in the Fantastic Four movies). Superheroes are something I like to draw sometimes. I think it's cool that there's a day for them.

How To Hold Your Pencil When Drawing (Updated)

I've been researching the various ways to hold your pencil when drawing. One of the things I found was a YouTube video at this link . It's from Proko. It looks interesting. I'm thinking of trying it after this post. I recommend giving the technique a try. Update: There's another video, this one from Fine Art Tips, about how to hold your pencil when drawing. It's at  https://youtu.be/TKagPZSLq6Y .

Comic Book Legal Defense Fund

Comic Book Legal Defense Fund is a good cause, and they have a site at www.cbldf.org . I recommend checking it out.

Looking For Inspiration

Inspiration can sometimes be difficult for an artist to find. I've researched some ways to get inspiration, and one of the articles I came across is at this link . It's a page on the For Dummies book site. It may be helpful if you're looking for inspiration.

2018

Happy New Year! It's 2018 now. It's actually January 3. I may see about posting some substantial posts soon. Maybe I'll post some of my art.
