7 Tips for the 21 Year Old Me by Bobby Chiu

Here are some more great tips from Bobby Chiu. To see previous posts of tips from Bobby Chiu, click on the label below.

A Guy, Man

Image
"A Guy, Man" This is something from last year. I put quite a bit of detail into the hair. I was looking through my old drawings to post something old since I don't have anything new ready to blog. I've been doing that lately. The title of this artwork is inspired by a character from the X-Files TV event earlier this year. There was a character named Guy Mann (I think that's the spelling).

Gesture Drawing with Alex Woo

I don't have a drawing that I feel like blogging today, but here's a video from Alex Woo of Schoolism about gesture drawing.

Gray Alien

Image
"Gray Alien" I didn't want to bother scanning an artwork for a blog post today, so I'm blogging this. This is a digitally colored artwork I did some years ago. I watched some alien specials, hosted by Jonathan Frakes of Star Trek: the Next Generation , earlier this week. So, I thought this would be an appropriate artwork for a post. Whether you believe the stuff in those shows or not, they're interesting to watch.

The Face Of Gus

Image
"The Face of Gus" Here's something I drew last year. It's just one of those drawings that I didn't necessarily have anything in mind for, and I just started drawing. I named him Gus. I thought that name suited him. The title of the drawing is a nod to the Face of Boe on Doctor Who , since the drawing is just of a face, or a head actually.

The Tourist

Image
"The Tourist" When I was scanning this I realized it might not be entirely clear whether the alien character is leaving, or arriving on, Earth. My original intention was that the background in the drawing is his home planet and he was being beamed up to go to Earth.. I was trying to go for a background that didn't necessarily look like Earth. But I thought about other ways that people might interpret it. For example, he might be arriving on a post-apocalyptic Earth. As you can see, he's a big fan of Earth entertainment.

Angry Blob (Updated)

Image
"Angry Blob" This is something I drew last year. It's basically a mutant character in a post-apocalyptic scene. I've been thinking about blogging this drawing. I ended up deciding to blog it today. I draw characters like these sometimes. I draw weird creatures, I think because I don't have anything in particular to draw. Update: I might go back and digitally color the original drawing of this, or maybe ink it and color it with colored pencils. I originally drew this on printer paper, so the latter is something I could do for that reason. I could do either.

Woman In Dress

Image
"Woman in Dress" It's been awhile since I drew this, but I think I based it on a picture of Jessica Alba in a form fitting, peach colored dress at the premiere of her movie Honey. It's similar to the drawing I blogged Friday . I saved this one for today rather than blogging it last week or Sunday.

Woman With Katana

Image
"Woman with Katana" Here's a drawing I did back in 2012. I thought about putting "Flashback Friday" in the blog title, but I decided not to. I have ideas for some new drawings, some of which I may blog on here. Also, I may blog some old drawings in some posts. While I'm on this blog post, there was something that I thought about blogging yesterday, but I decided to wait till this post. Bobby Chiu did a journal post on deviantART about a video that Schoolism instructor Alex Woo did. It's about gesture drawing. You can check it out here . That's all for now.

Guy

Image
"Guy" I drew this earlier this week using Bobby Chiu's arrow method. I was going to post a link to the video for it but I'm having trouble finding the video. I may put in a later blog post. Basically though, he shows to draw the eyes, nose, and mouth using arrows. I drew this picture in a 2.56 x 3.87 in The Dark Knight Rises sketchbook. It had newsprint type of paper in it. The sketchbook came with a larger sketchbook, pencils, an eraser, and a small manual pencil sharpener. The larger sketchbook also had newsprint paper in it. I recommend checking out Bobby Chiu's YouTube page here , and his Twitter page here .

Joker Face 2

Image
"Joker Face 2" I was doing some drawing last night and this is one of the drawings I came up with. I consider it sort of a sequel to my "Joker Face" drawing, which I blogged about here . This one, as you can probably tell, is more like the Joker on Batman: the Animated Series .
